Phytochemicals Targeting VEGF and VEGF-Related Multifactors as Anticancer Therapy
Angiogenesis, the development of new blood vessels, facilitates metastasis and plays a vital role in the spread of cancer in the human body. Several factors contribute to angiogenesis including the presence of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in tumor cells. This study examined data pertaining to a large list of medicinal plants and herbs and their phytochemicals that target VEGF and other VEGF promoting factors. Parveen et al concluded that given phytochemicals, such as those found in Burdock Root, can suppress the growth of cancer, plants should be used in the development of anticancer treatments.
