Molecular mechanisms of the action of Arctigenin in cancer

This paper summarizes research that supports the view that arctigenin, extracted from Arctium lappa (burdock), has anti-cancer properties. The researchers focused on the molecular pathways used by arctigenin citing studies on how arctigenin causes cell death (apoptosis), prevents metastasis, and inhibits tumor growth. The researchers reviewed toxicological studies as well as studies that tested the interaction of arctigenin and traditional cancer therapies. They concluded that research supports the use of arctigenin as a cancer therapy. They recommend additional clinical trials with humans.
