Effect of burdock extract on physical performance and physiological fatigue in mice
This study used mice to determine if consuming burdock would have an effect on exercise performance and physical fatigue. Fatigue is a common concern and can lead to various disorders and is therefore a condition that should be treated. Evidence-based results of this study show that burdock has a positive effect on forelimb grip strength suggesting burdock increase muscle strength. The study also confirmed what other studies have demonstrated related to endurance and fatigue. After fours weeks of being treated with burdock, mice were able to swim for extended periods. Tissue from the mice were also examined and it was determined that there was no toxic effects of burdock. The researchers attribute the reduction of fatigue to the fact that burdock reduces oxidative stress.
