Antiproliferative and Apoptotic Effects of Butyrolactone Lignans from Arctium lappa on the Leukemic Cells

Matsumoto et al conducted a study on Arctium lappa (Burdock Root) to measure its inhibitory effects on leukemic cells. Three lignans: arctigenin, matairesinol and didehydroarctigenin were isolated. Analysis of their biological activity found that the arctigenin had the most anti-proliferative effect on the leukemic cells while the other two had a more moderate effect.
