The therapeutic effect of Arctium lappa in Schistosoma haematobium associated kidney disturbance: biochemical and molecular effects

Schistosomiasis is a parasitic infection that is highly prevalent in South East Asia and China and is associated with bladder cancer and kidney abnormalities. This study focused on the effect of seed extract of Arctium lappa (burdock) in kidney disturbance associated with Schistosomiasis using four groups of mice. The study demonstrated that Arctium lappa prevents oxidative damage and is effective at disposing harmful free radicals, suggesting it could be used as an inexpensive therapy for schistosomiasis and ultimately prevent kidney and bladder cancers.
