Arctium lappa ameliorates endothelial dysfunction in rats fed with high fat/cholesterol diets

This study investigated the effects of an ethanol extract of Arctium lappa (burdock) on inflammatory factors and vascular reactivity in rats fed a high fat/cholesterol diet (HFCD). Lee et al observed that treatment of HFCD-fed rats with Arctium lappa reduced hypertension by protecting the relaxation response in blood vessels. Arctium lappa also improved HDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels and reduced vascular inflammation markers thereby preventing atherosclerosis.
